Nail Biting - Onychophagia

Nail-biting (onychophagia) is a common stress-relieving habit. You may bite your nails in times of stress or excitement, or in times of boredom or inactivity. It can also be a learned behavior from family members. Nail-biting is the most common of the typical "nervous habits," which include thumb-sucking, nose-picking, hair-twisting or pulling, tooth-grinding, and picking at skin.

You may bite your nails without realizing you are doing it. You might be involved in another activity, such as reading, watching television, or talking on the phone, and bite your nails without thinking about it.

The process to eliminate nail biting is usually a short one because it is an emotion that is easy to target in session.  We will discuss when you engage in this behavior the most and in session target the feeling behind it.  This is always based in an emotion.

Once we find where this started and clear the feeling causing this behavior you simply won't do it any longer.

This can be associated with a habit as well, just like holding a cigarette, or eating too much.  Habits, or patterns of behavior, are always stored within the subconscious mind.  Be it a nervous feeling, a habit, or a protection mechanism, it is usually very easy to solve.
